魯比歐試圖修補與教宗雷奧的緊張關係，此前曾與川普發生爭執

(SeaPRwire) –   國務卿馬可·魯比歐於周四與教宗若望十四世會面，強調雙方「共同致力於促進和平」，並提及總統唐納·川普與這位天主教領袖之間持續的摩擦。

就在川普譴責教宗反對伊朗戰爭、稱其「危及許多天主教徒」數日後，魯比歐抵達梵蒂岡執行關鍵外交任務。

兩人 reportedly 交談了兩個半小時，美國國務院發言人湯米·皮克托（Tommy Pigott）表示，他們討論了「中東情勢以及西半球共同關注的議題」。

皮克托指出：「此次會面凸顯了美國與聖座之間深厚的關係，以及雙方共同 promoting peace and human dignity 的承諾。」

訪問期間，魯比歐還會見了聖座國務卿皮耶羅·帕羅林樞機主教，後者於會面前夕為教宗辯護，駁斥川普的攻擊。

儘管如此，川普仍 repeatedly mischaracterize the Pope’s position on Iran， prompting Leo to once again reiterate his support for diplomacy。

教宗表示：「我 always believe that it is much better to enter into dialogue， than to look for arms， and to support the arms industry， which gains billions and billions of dollars each year。」

魯比歐持續執行外交任務

在前往梵蒂岡前，魯比歐堅稱此次訪問 long been planned，但 also acknowledged that “obviously we had some stuff that happened。”
